About us

Southwest Hearing started as a family-owned pop-up clinic for musicians in Bristol. We, Jonathan and Vicki, work closely together as a husband-and-wife team. Our deep understanding of each other’s strengths leads to clear communication, which is essential in our clinical practice. As demand for our services grew, we expanded from Bristol to Devon, and you can now visit us at our main clinic in Totnes.

Alongside our son, we love to explore everything our local area has to offer. When we’re not in the office, you can find us swimming at Blackpool Sands, surfing at Bigbury, enjoying family walks through the beautiful Dartington Estate, or savoring brunch at one of Totnes’ charming indie cafes. We feel incredibly fortunate to call this place home and look forward to connecting with fellow community members.

Jonathan Doyle MSc BSc (Hons) RHAD
Audiologist & Clinical Director

I’ve spent the best part of a decade honing my craft in renowned independent clinics from Harley Street Hearing to Clifton Audiology, and I believe that it is my patient-centric and kind-hearted approach to audiological care which distinguishes our service from the rest. I am committed to developing tailored solutions, bespoke to each individual, and the success of following this process is attested to by several testimonials (see our 5-star Google reviews!). I’ve always been fascinated by music - drawing upon an academic background in neuroscience, I really found my passion in understanding this link between sensory information and cognitive perception. Audiology for me is one of the few subjects where science and art collide, where sound waves become music, and where the fundamentals of communication are born. I can talk all day about ears and hearing, so please feel free to pick my brain!

Vicki Doyle
Practice Director

With 15 exciting years in luxury travel and hospitality, both in the UK and overseas, I now manage the β€˜behind-the-scenes’ operations at Southwest Hearing. My journey has taken me to remarkable corners of the world, where I’ve not only gathered a wealth of experience in high-level customer service but also developed a genuine appreciation for connecting with people from all walks of life. I’m passionate about fostering an inviting atmosphere where everyone feels valued.

In addition to my role here, I’m a qualified swim teacher, which I enjoy doing in the evenings. My commitment to supporting our growing business ensures that we provide the best possible care for our patients, both new and returning. Meeting your needs is our top priority, and I truly believe our dedication to this sets us apart in the industry.

β€œAt first glance our logo evokes the characteristic form of an ear through simple lines; the lower half as the entrance to the ear canal, contrasting with the cartilage of the upper pinna. Simplicity is at the root of our ethos, in that solutions we offer are both elegant and efficient. Reminiscent of the telecoil induction loop symbol, we are universally accessible and approachable. Contrasting halves portray the concept of yin-yang, an ancient Chinese philosophy of balance - which is another less outwardly obvious sense governed by the inner ear. These halves are bisected by a compass arrow bearing Southwest, our place of work and where we call home.”
